King Edward Mine
United Kingdom / England
Location ID: #999-21278
King Edward Mine is the best-preserved mine site in Cornwall. The six buildings that make up the site are listed by English Heritage as Grade II*, meaning that it is particularly important, of more than special national interest.
There are four original Cornish Engine Houses on our 22-acre site. The Cornish Mill has working rare machinery dating from the end of the nineteenth century. The lighting inside the Mill is particularly evocative of a bygone mining era.
The original Survey Office was built in 1897, and remains unchanged as a classroom, with the original stools, tables, drawers and blackboard where students sat more than 120 years ago. The site is owned by Cornwall Council and run by Trustees and volunteers.
